Canadian Veterans Welcomed

A Canadian serviceman remembered

Annual Canadian Memorial Service

On Wednesday 24th June at 10.30am at St Mary, Bramshott a service was held to commemorate the strong connections between the Canadian Armed Forces and the villages around Bramshott.

This annual service is open to any members of the community to attend. In addition to representatives of the Canadian High Commission, Canadian Veterans Association and local members of the community, children from Year 4 at Liphook C of E Junior School took part in the service and laid maple leaves on selected WW1 graves. This was, as every year, a most moving occasion and one which helps pass on the ‘Canadian connection’ to a new generation of villagers. After the service the school entertained visitors to lunch and a post-lunch performance of poems and wartime songs.

After the service the church was presented with a collection of poems and reflections written by members of Year 4 from Liphook C of E Junior School. The Canadian Presentation book is now on view, on the font, under the Canadian standards at the rear of the church.
