A Place for Quiet Reflection and Prayer
The new Church Centre Chapel was officially dedicated by Archdeacon Peter Hancock in February 2006. It is now established as a place for prayer and reflection whilst the rest of the building is in constant use. Prayer groups meet regularly in the chapel and it is also used for mid-week Holy Communion during the winter months. The chapel is open all day and is available as a place of quiet to all the community.
The idea for a chapel was conceived a few years ago. It was felt that there was an increasing need for a place of quiet whilst there were church services being held, and when social gatherings, meetings, parties and receptions were taking place. The idea was to link the Church Centre and the Ark by a covered walkway, with a chapel in the centre that could be used as a separate place, with its own entrance. This was a fairly big project, but once plans had been drawn up and architects chosen, the actual building work took around six months to complete.
There was much teamwork involved in decorating the Link and the Chapel walls, and in building a small rock garden near the entrance, which enhances the theme of a quiet space. There are also two benches where people can sit. The four large windows at the rear of the chapel have recently been decorated. There is a biblical text on each and line illustrations that can act as a focus for prayer and which underline our mission as a church. Why not come and see our beautiful chapel, and if you would like to spend some quiet and tranquil moments there you are most welcome. Its purpose is to be a place of God open to all.
